The 2017 Costa Book Award Winners have been announced.
I'm pleased to see that "Reservoir13" by Jon McGregor won best novel. I think this is a wonderful book and was disappointed that it didn't make the Mann Booker Shortlist. I hope this award helps to build the readership for this novel.
I'm completely unsurprised to see that "Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine" by Gail Honeyman won the best first novel award. This was one of my favourite reads of 2017. It's staggering to see that something this accomplished, self-confident and deeply honest is a first novel.
